Fictional streaming: Cruz Vermelha SP launches new fundraising channel

Since the first streaming was invented, a number of other platforms that make films available online have emerged. Today, some users have subscriptions to so many tools that they can’t even manage to consume content from them all.

But a creative idea came up to play with those who pay for streaming, but don’t watch the productions. “HelpPlus”, launched by Cruz Vermelha São Paulo, is the first social streaming, created to raise donations for the institution.

“The idea for HelpPlus was inspired by a real behavior of people, most of whom pay for and subscribe to more than one video streaming service, but are unable to watch it. That’s why the creation of a fake streaming designed to make the donation seen in a younger, more humorous, modern way, and nothing more contemporary than a streaming”, says the creative director of Lew´Lara\TBWA, the company responsible for the tool development, Fernando Lyra.

Unlike other platforms, however, “HelpPlus doesn’t give you the feeling of wasting money, even if you pay and don’t watch, as Cruz Vermelha São Paulo transforms your ‘subscription’ into donations for those in need”, says Lyra.

Operating in the state of São Paulo since 1912, the Red Cross is an international organization that promotes assistance to people in vulnerable situations, especially in armed conflicts — such as the war in Israel — and other emergencies.

To make up the HelpPlus catalog, the developers created 100 fictional film titles, along with covers and synopses. Although the site seems real, the entire service is fictitious and the films don’t really exist.

The “service” is offered in monthly subscriptions of R$10.00, R$30.00 or R$50.00. The money raised will then be donated to the organization.

“Recurring contributions are essential for the design of long-term programs that enable the effective reduction of the vulnerability of beneficiaries”, says Bruno Semino, from Cruz Vermelha São Paulo. .
