Released this Thursday (6) by the GetĂșlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), the Antecedent Employment Indicator (IAEmp) dropped 1.2 points in December and closed the year at 81.8 points, on a scale that goes from zero to 200 and has its neutrality point at 100. This was the second consecutive month of decline.
The indicator intends to anticipate the direction of the Brazilian labor market. The level at which the year closes is lower than the 85.7 points recorded in December 2020, the same period last year.
With the current variation, the quarterly moving average of the indicator decreased by 1.7 points and dropped to 84 points. According to the Brazilian Institute of Economics (Ibre), the FGV body that produces the indicator, the drop reflects the negative variation of five of the seven components of the IAEmp.
The most intense drops occurred in the items of the Industry Survey. The current status of business in the industry is down seven points, while that of business and service trends is down three points.
According to researcher Rodolpho Tobler, an economist at FGV Ibre, the indicator is at its lowest level since April, and ends 2021 with a negative trend.
âThe economic slowdown at the end of 2021, observed in the main sectors, seems to be the main factor for this result. For the first months of 2022, it is difficult to envision a very favorable scenario for the labor market, considering the fragile macroeconomic environment that should persist in the short termâ, says the researcher
The two positive results of the consultation were the expected employment indicator, from the industry survey, which provided 0.3 at the margin, and the current business situation, which contributed 0.4 point. However, they were unable to prevent the index from ending the year with a new low.
