The Federal Justice decreed, this Saturday (9), the preventive detention of four investigated for the death of the British journalist Dom Phillips and the Brazilian indigenist Bruno Pereira, in Vale do Javari.
One of the prisoners is Rubens Villar Coelho, known as “Colombia”, who was arrested by the Federal Police this Friday (8). Coelho was already investigated by the Federal Police and was arrested with false documents.
In addition to them, the trio Amarildo da Costa Oliveira, known as “Pelado”, his brother Oseney da Costa Oliveira, known as “Dos Santo” and Jefferson da Silva Lima, known as “Pelado da Dinha”, also had their preventive detention ordered.
The trio is responsible for the murder of Dom and Bruno.
“All prisoners will be transferred to Manaus in due course, where they will remain at the disposal of the police authorities and the Federal Justice,” the Federal Police said in a statement.

“We are finding out that this person known as ‘Colombia’ works with fishing, according to him, he buys fish. We are investigating whether or not there is illegal fishing and if there is only a commercial relationship with other traders or if he participates in and finances illegal fishing in the region”, said the delegate in an interview with the press.
The PF also claims that the suspect works with fishing in the Javari region and would be the boss of Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, one of the perpetrators of the shooting, who had already been arrested.
Amazonas judge sends case to Federal Court
Judge Jacinta Silva dos Santos, head of the District of Atalaia do Norte, a municipality in the interior of Amazonas, determined, last Thursday (7), that the case concerning the murders of indigenist Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Philips, which took place on June 5 this year. The case is under judicial secrecy.
Pereira and Phillips were shot dead and their bodies burned and buried during an expedition in a region that is the scene of recurring conflicts in the Amazon: drug trafficking, wood theft and the advance of mining.
The information was confirmed by the Court of Justice of Amazonas (TJ-AM). In the decision, the magistrate noted that the report of the investigations carried out by the Civil and Federal Police, and which appears in the procedural records, concludes that the motivation of the crime would be directly related to indigenous rights, whose analysis of the legal matter is the responsibility of the Federal Court. .
In addition, the Public Prosecutor’s Office also asked the Federal Court to decline jurisdiction. “This information was not previously included in the records, which therefore allowed the State Court to act in this process”, explained the judge.
The TJ-AM also reported that, in the late afternoon of last Wednesday (6), there was a request from the police authorities who are in charge of the investigations for the Justice to convert the temporary detention of three investigated into preventive detention.
