Turkey is a boiling cauldron just 24 hours before the elections of Sunday. Supporters of the ruling AKP, including a party official, attacked a cafe in Izmir and began tearing down posters of his Republican People’s Party Kemal Kilicdaroglu. The opposition leader again warned of the risk of election night irregularities.
“We hear that some elements will take to the streets on the night of the elections and will act perversely. It is not only me (who receives this information), but also other leaders. I want everyone to be calm,” said Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
At the same time, the pro-government newspaper, Jeni Safak, accuses the Gülenists of being behind the attack on Ekrem Imamoglu in Erzurum, the Erdogan accuses the opposing side of provocations and Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu attacks the United States again, according to the ERT report. He blames them for the coup attempt in July 2016, for the corruption scandal involving AKP officials in December 2013 and for the large demonstrations in Gezi Park in June of the same year.
Erdogan, for his part, announced the increase in the salary of civil servants by 45% and repeated the constant accusation of Kilicdaroglu’s relationship with the PKK because he cooperates with the pro-Kurdish HDP.
One in front is Erdogan, one is Kilicdaroglu
The high tones in Greek-Turkish may be far from this pre-election period in Turkey and Greece, but the tension in Turkey is peaking more and more. Analysts stress that the attack on Ekrem Imamoglu’s bus favors Kilicdaroglu’s party at the ballot box, notes the Deutsche Welle.
As the publication notes, there are not a few who note that at the time Tayyip ErdoÄŸan was showing upward trends in the polls, this fact will reverse the picture and help the opposition to reach the coveted 50% even from the first round. After all, this is what the last official poll published before the bans says. Polls may be held in the next few days, but we will not see their results. The 50.9% for Kilicdaroglu shown by the mak poll, significantly reducing Muharem Ince’s percentage from 5.5% to 1.7% in contrast to all the others, shows that on Sunday all possibilities are open.
The plastiga at one moment leans towards Erdogan and the other towards the opposition. In this pattern it seems that things will move until Sunday. Ultimately the goal of both sides seems to be to cut the thread from the first round.
