Father suffers motorcycle accident with 5-year-old daughter and abandons the injured child on the street

A 32-year-old man abandoned his own 5-year-old daughter after suffering a motorcycle accident with the child in the early hours of last Sunday (11) in Contagem, metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte (MG).

According to the Military Police, every 15 days the girl is under the responsibility of her father and this weekend, she would have gone to spend Father’s Day with him.

The police say that the man, whose identity has not been released, took his daughter – illegally – on the back of a motorcycle to a barbecue. During the early hours of the morning, when he returned home after drinking alcohol, he fell out of the vehicle along with the child.

Drunk, the man fled the scene of the accident and abandoned his own daughter alone, with two exposed fractures in her feet. According to the police, the girl was left without adequate clothing to withstand the early morning cold.

The child was found by neighbors and taken to the home of her paternal grandmother, who lives in the same neighborhood. Afterwards, the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) was called and the girl was taken to the Municipal Hospital of Contagem.

Later, military police went to the grandmother’s house looking for the man, but the elderly woman was unable to tell her son’s whereabouts. The woman had indicated a place where he might be, at the house of an acquaintance, but he was not located.

After being informed about the incident, the girl’s mother went to the hospital. The woman had been separated from her father for about two years, according to what she told the police.

Transporting children in a motor vehicle without observing the special safety standards established by law is considered a very serious offense, as provided for in the Brazilian Traffic Code. The penalty is a fine and impoundment of the vehicle.
