The father of the 3-year-old girl who died this Saturday (16) after being shot, on September 7, by a federal highway police officer in Rio de Janeiro said that he was not approached by the agents at any time and that the agents already arrived shooting when stopped on the side of the road. The statement was given in a statement to the police.
Willian de Souza said that he passed by a PRF post at Arco Metropolitano, in Seropédica, in Baixada Fluminense, but that there was no approach. However, he noticed that she was followed at a short distance by a corporation vehicle.
Therefore, he would have spontaneously activated the vehicle’s turn signal and started maneuvering towards the shoulder. However, when he was about to stop the car, the police allegedly started a series of shots that hit 3-year-old Heloísa dos Santos Silva.
The father’s reaction would have been to get out of the vehicle quickly so “the police could see that it was a family”. In addition to them, the girl’s 8-year-old sister and an aunt were also in the car.
“I put my hand up, everyone came out, just my little one who stayed in the car. That was the moment when I went into shock, into despair”, said Willian.
The shots were fired from 5.56 rifles, considered large caliber weapons. The girl Heloísa was seriously injured in the head.
She was taken in a PRF vehicle to the Municipalized Hospital Adão Pereira Nunes, in Duque de Caxias, where she was hospitalized until she died this Saturday.
The hospital management reported that the child was admitted to the hospital with bleeding from the scalp, being sedated and then intubated. After evaluation, she underwent a surgical procedure.
Stolen car
According to the PRF, the car in which the girl and her family were traveling was reported stolen from August last year. Willian said he bought the car without knowing.
By telephone, the former owner of the vehicle, a resident of Petrópolis, confirmed to the CNN who had his car stolen in August 2022. According to the man, who asked not to be identified, he was the victim of an armed robbery.
The man said he received a call from the PRF and was informed of the seizure of the stolen vehicle.
MPF calls for arrest of agents
The Federal Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro asked the Court, on Friday (15), for the arrest of the police officers involved in the incident: Fabiano Menacho Ferreira, Matheus Domicioli Soares Viegas Pinheiro and Wesley Santos da Silva).
One day after the case, the PRF had already ordered their removal from their duties at the corporation.
