Famous singer Milva passed away at the age of 81.
According to information transmitted by Italian media, citing her family, Maria Elva Biolcati was ill for years and “extinguished” on Friday night.
She had performed some of the greatest Italian hits of the ’60s and’ 70s, and her striking red hair was recognizable far beyond her country’s borders.
In Greece she had become famous for the song Thalassa, to music by Thanos Mikroutsikos and lyrics by Lina Nikolakopoulou.
“Milva was one of the most intense singers of Italian song. Her voice evoked strong emotions for generations. “She was a great Italian, an artist who started from her hometown to rise on the international stage,” commented Italian Culture Minister Dario Francescini.
Born on July 17, 1939 in the village of Goro in the province of Emilia – Romagna in northern Italy, Milva made her appearance in the Italian art world at the 1961 San Remo Song Festival.
In 2010 she wrote: “After fifty years of uninterrupted activity, thousands of concerts and theatrical performances in at least half the world, a hundred records in seven different languages, I decided to put an end to my career.” According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, she was the great protagonist of Italian music, along with Mina and Ornella Vanoni.
Talent of cinema, light music (with eleven entries at the San Remo festival) and theater, Italy is preparing to say goodbye to Milva with due respect.
