The American court found guilty of fraud and awarded 20 years in prison to the founder of a fictitious organization associated with the UN.
The Department of Justice for the Southern District of New York announced that the district court on Friday, March 18, sentenced Asa Saint Clair. The defendant was accused of creating a fictitious organization, the World Sports Alliance, allegedly associated with the UN. The verdict deals with wire fraud and the development of an investment scheme that has affected more than 60 victims, losing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The materials of the criminal case say that Saint-Clair urged the victims to invest in their organization “under UN guarantees”, and offered the purchase of IGObit digital coins as an investment tool.
Saint-Clair insisted that the “world sports alliance” he leads is a sporting arm of the United Nations that specifically designed the IGObit digital coin, which guarantees profits and returns on investment.
“St. Clair actually only promoted the balance of his bank accounts and redirected investor funds for his own personal expenses and benefits,” insists Damian Williams, Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
St. Clair could face a maximum penalty for Electronic Fraud of 20 years in prison.
