The open coffin with Pope Francis’ body was placed in St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday (23), allowing the faithful to pay their last honors to the Pontiff.
Public visitation was opened shortly before 6am (Brasília time) and a large line of people was waiting to see the pontiff.
Francisco’s body will remain in the basilica until Friday (25), with the funeral scheduled for Saturday (26).
The 88-year-old Pope’s coffin, who died two days ago in his quarters at Santa Marta after suffering a stroke, was taken in a procession on Wednesday from his residence to the Basilica of St. Peter.
