Fachin gives 15 days for entities to nominate representatives to oversee the voting system

The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Edson Fachin, established this Tuesday (21) a period of 15 days for entities able to monitor the inspection and audit process of the electronic voting system to express interest or nominate their representatives. . The document is a clear message to the Ministries of Defense and Justice, which sent official letters to the Electoral Court on the supervision of the electoral process.

Although short, Fachin’s order has as its most important point to make it clear that it is the TSE that defines when and how the inspection will be carried out. And more than that: all eligible entities will participate in the process in the same way, without any difference in relation to the Federal Police or the Armed Forces, for example.

Fachin’s decision is directed at the 16 entities that are listed in the TSE resolution of December 2021 as “legitimized to participate in the stages of the inspection process” of the electoral process. In the list are not only the PF and the Armed Forces, but also the political parties themselves, the National Congress, the Federal Supreme Court, the Federal Audit Court and the Federal Public Ministry.

This Monday (20), as anticipated by the policy analyst at CNN Gustavo Uribe, Defense Minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, sent a new official letter to the TSE informing that the Armed Forces will appoint a technical team to participate in the inspection process of the electronic voting system.

In the document, addressed to Fachin, the active-duty general recalled that a resolution from the Electoral Justice, dated December of last year, points to the participation of the Armed Forces as “entities that supervise the electronic voting system”.

“The participation of the Armed Forces as inspection entities of the electronic voting system will take place jointly, through a team of military technicians, whose names will be forwarded to the TSE in due course,” said the minister.

The official letter also requests that, in order to facilitate the coordination of the participation of the Armed Forces, an Electoral Justice server be appointed as a “point of contact for the aforementioned team”.
