Expert report confirms lead in poisoned milkshake that killed young man in RJ

The expert report on the milkshake that killed 23-year-old Vitória da Conceição Pereira in Rio de Janeiro found the presence of lead in the drink. The incident occurred on August 4 in Maricá.

According to the Éboli Criminalistics Institute of the Civil Police, the material analyzed was adulterated. “The food materials (traces of milkshake and French fries) are ALTERED, as they are in a state of decomposition and have an altered odor. In addition, the food material containing traces of milkshake is ADULTERATED, due to the detection of the substance TERBUFÓS.”

According to the Civil Police report, “the material became harmful to health, since the substance Terbufos, added to the food material, acts pharmacologically as an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, being absorbed by the body through the skin and mucous membranes”.

The document explains that the clinical symptoms of poisoning vary according to the dose ingested and/or absorbed: vomiting, sweating, headache, bradycardia, hypotension, abdominal cramps, spasms of smooth and striated muscles, convulsions, coma and death.

“Yes. The dark gray granules were identified as ‘chumbinho’, that is, a clandestine product, irregularly used as rat poison,” says the report.

“It is not registered with Anvisa, nor with any other government agency. In general, the so-called ‘chumbinho’, is an agricultural poison (agrochemical), for exclusive use in agriculture as an insecticide, acaricide or nematicide, diverted from the field to large centers to be improperly used as rat poison”, adds the document.
