Businessman João Ricardo Rangel Mendes, former HURB’s CEO, was arrested for stealing artwork from a luxury hotel and an architectural office located in the west of Rio de Janeiro. The arrest in the act was made by the Civil Police, on Friday night (25).

In another image, already inside one of the places, the former CEO of HURB appears in a backpack and removing a work of art from the wall and putting it on a couch. The theft happened in a common area of the establishment. Watch video:
Police reported that inside a businessman’s apartment were found three ceramic sculptures and one of the paintings that were stolen from the hotel. According to the investigators, the works were valued at approximately R $ 23,000. A subtracted painting has not yet been found. The material found was returned to the owners.
The police reported that before being arrested, João Ricardo tried to escape the police approach. The suspect, however, failed and was captured on the terrace of an apartment. He was charged in the act for the crime of theft.
The occurrence was registered at the 16th Barra da Tijuca Police Station, where investigations go to locate the last stolen art work.
