Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Evgeny Grabchak said that Russian miners are planned to be included in the fourth category of reliability for electricity consumers. They can be disconnected from the power grid at any time.

Evgeniy Grabchak said that in addition to miners, other consumers, for example, construction sites, could be included in the new reliability category. By the end of the year, the Ministry of Energy will present specific proposals on which other consumers may be included in the fourth category.

“The introduction of a new category of consumers – the fourth – is now being actively discussed. When there is no peak consumption, there is no shortage of power, i.e. for most of the year, this power can be provided to some consumers. But on the condition that they themselves limit themselves or install automation devices that would allow them to be turned off,” said Grabchak.

By creating the fourth category, it will be possible to connect new customers to the power grid and level out the load on the power grid at times of peak consumption. The fourth category of reliability may be introduced in several Russian regions, including the Irkutsk region, Trans-Baikal Territory and Buryatia, as an experiment after agreement with local authorities.

The Deputy Minister of Energy recalled that at the moment there are three categories of reliability for electricity consumers. The first includes social facilities and other critical infrastructure, the second includes the industrial sector, and the third, least important, includes all other facilities.

Earlier, the founder and CEO of BitRiver, Igor Runets, said that the adoption of the law on the development of mining in Russia has strengthened the country’s position in this area, and soon Russian miners will catch up and surpass the United States.
