“Everyone But You”: Sydney Sweeney explains romance rumors with Glen Powell

The actors Sydney Sweeney, 26, and Glen Powell, 35, didn't really care about the dating rumors which circulated when they were promoting their 2023 romantic comedy, “Everyone But You” .

In fact, they tried to increase the buzz according to Sweeney — who also served as the film's executive producer — saying she was on “every call” with studio executives about the marketing plan.

“I wanted to make sure we were actively talking to the audience while promoting this film,” she told the New York Times in an interview published Wednesday. “Because at the end of the day they were the ones who created the entire narrative.”

Sweeney and “Top Gun: Maverick” star Powell showed their chemistry during a flirty appearance at last year's CinemaCon, which sparked speculation on social media that there was a potential real-life romantic connection.

Powell had separated of his then-girlfriend at the time, according to the Times, and Sweeney is engaged to businessman Jonathan Davino since 2022 – which, however, fueled the rumor.

“Sydney and I have a lot of fun together and have so much effortless chemistry,” Powell told the Times. “Sometimes you just need a little push – and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.

A “Euphoria” actress ended up clearing things up when he hosted Saturday Night Live in March, saying during his monologue that “the craziest rumor I’ve ever seen is that while I was filming 'Everyone But You,' I was having an affair with my co-star, Glen Powell.”

“That’s obviously not true,” she said later adding that she and Davino are “still together and stronger than ever.”

“Everyone But You” was released in theaters in December and follows a couple full of ups and downs, played by Sweeney and Powell, who are forced to pretend to be a happy couple at a wedding in Australia. It is now available to stream on Netflix.
