Even the mildest cases of Covid-19 are capable of causing changes in the brain.
This is the conclusion of studies conducted by Unicamp, under the guidance of neurology professor Clarissa Yasuda.
Among the consequences are neuropsychiatric manifestations, such as fatigue, anxiety, depression and drowsiness.
A CNN Radio the researcher said that she started collecting data from voluntary patients at the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020.
“A very large number of people reported symptoms and problems,” he said.
According to her, the long Covid has an estimate of affecting between 10 and 30% of the population with a positive diagnosis.
“It’s quite a lot, we must have millions of people in Brazil alone,” he added.
Clarissa also considered that this number may still be underreported, since not all those infected were diagnosed with Covid-19.
According to the professor, “we are still in the dark” about the real impact of Sars-cov-2 and the consequences of the long Covid.
“We have no specific treatment, and the syndrome is a set of signs and symptoms, each person can have different manifestations.”
Among these manifestations are, in addition to cognitive changes, heart, kidney, coagulation and even diabetes problems.
