Eurozone: Retail sales fall 3.7% yoy in June vs. -1.7% expected

  • Eurozone retail sales fell -1.2% mom in June vs. 0.0% expected.
  • Retail sales in the bloc fell -3.7% yoy in June vs -1.7% expected.

Euro zone retail sales fell 1.2% mom in June, vs. 0.0% expected and 0.4% previously, according to official figures released by Eurostat on Wednesday.

In annual terms, the bloc’s retail sales stood at -3.7% in Junecompared to the 0.4% registered in May and the estimated -1.7%.

On the other hand, the PPI producer price index for the Eurozone stood at 35.8% year-on-year and 1.1% per month. Both readings beat market expectations.

This survey of goods sold by retailers published by Eurostat is based on a sample of retail stores of different types and is considered an indicator of the rate of growth of the economy. It shows the performance of the retail sector in the short and medium term. A result above the market consensus is bullish for the euro, while a result below is bearish.
