Ethanol shows advantage over gasoline in four states and DF

With the first increase after 22 weeks of price reduction, ethanol is more advantageous compared to gasoline in four states — Goiás, Mato Grosso, Paraíba and São Paulo — and in the Federal District.

The result is a survey carried out by CNN based on the latest bulletin from the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), which takes into account values observed in the country between the 2nd and 8th of this month of October.

In the previous week, the ANP data indicated the advantage of ethanol in seven states, in addition to the DF. Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais left the list. In the national average, alcohol went from R$ 3.37 to R$ 3.40, an increase of 0.9%, the first since April this year.

The most competitive fuel — calculated when the price of ethanol is at most 70% of gasoline — is observed in Mato Grosso, where the average liter of alcohol is R$ 2.97, the only one below R$ 3 in the Brazil, against R$ 4.84 for gasoline.

Goiás comes next, with alcohol at R$3.25 and gasoline at R$4.83. In São Paulo and Paraíba, the advantage is already approaching the limit, with ethanol at R$ 3.26 and R$ 3.35,
respectively, against R$4.69 and R$4.83 for gasoline. In the Federal District, ethanol and gasoline are equivalent, with the liter costing R$ 3.53 and R$ 4.99.

The states in which ethanol registers the worst competitiveness with gasoline are Amapá, where ethanol is more expensive, at R$ 4.99 against R$ 4.53 for the rival, Pará (R$ 4.38 XR$ 4, 60), Rio Grande do Sul (R$4.57 XR$4.67) and Roraima (R$5.07 XR$5.31).

While ethanol rose at gas stations across the country, gasoline registered its 15th week of decline, going from R$4.81 to R$4.79. At the end of June, the fuel came to be found at R$ 7.39. Since then, it has fallen due to the limitation of ICMS in the states and reductions announced by Petrobras, with the variation in the price of oil on the world market.

However, oil rose again. As a result, according to the report by the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom), gasoline closed Friday (7) with a lag of R$ 0.32 per liter. In the case of diesel, the difference is even greater, at R$ 0.62. The scenario pressures Petrobras for new readjustments, this time upwards.

According to the ANP, ordinary diesel (S500) fell from R$6.56 between September 25th and October 1st, to R$6.52 from October 2nd to 8th. In the same period, the less polluting S10 oil went from R$6.73 to R$6.67.
