Estonian Prime Minister: Achieving peace regardless of cost is not a solution

Achieving peace regardless of cost is not a solution, said Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kalas in an exclusive interview with the French newspaper Libération, while calling on Europeans to show unity and provide “all the help Ukraine needs to win”.

Regarding the attitude of the EU Russia, especially in the aftermath of the Bucharest massacre of civilians, stressed the need to toughen sanctions, and said that when it comes to a full embargo on Russian gas imports, “when it comes to energy, we must not forget values. “Gasoline can be expensive, but freedom is priceless.”

“If Putin wins or thinks he has won, he will have more appetite and will attack other areas,” she said. “It’s okay to stop the atrocities. But we have to make sure that Ukraine is not forced to sign an agreement.”

Describing Putin’s attitude towards the West, he says he decided that the West would become Russia when he realized that Russia would never become Europe or the West.

“Putin is the problem. At the moment we are focusing on the ‘classic’ war in Ukraine. But there is also a hybrid war inside our countries, which seeks to destabilize them by creating or exploiting tensions,” Kalas said.

Finally, when asked how he sees the conflict in Ukraine ending, he said that there should be some kind of peace agreement and added: “But we must keep in mind that this is not a voluntary agreement. Ukraine will not voluntarily cede any of the territories If there is an agreement, it will be because we all want this war to end. But it is important that Putin does not leave as if nothing happened. We have already made this mistake twice. After Crimea, after Donbass, we accepted it. “We let it go and said, ‘Let’s draw a line there and move on. But in reality it was just a pause and it all started again. And it will start again if we do not stop this deviation.’
