The Federal Supreme Court (STF) resumed this Wednesday (30) the judgment of seven actions on environmental issues. The CNN Environment Specialist, Erika Bechara, commented this Thursday (7) about the votes.
For the specialist, the Green Package marks the country’s environmental history by the symbolic force of the meeting in a session to discuss these themes.
She explained that the first two actions analyzed deal with the government’s omission in the deforestation of the Amazon, which has been advancing at an accelerated pace. Approximately 20% of the biome’s forest cover has already been deforested.
“We are reaching the point where the Amazon Forest can become a savannah”, stated Erika.
The expert also said she agrees with Minister Carmen Lúcia, who pointed out that Brazil is privileged to have the Amazon Forest, but also a responsibility and that there is no room for the state not to act in its defense.
