THE Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in as Turkey’s president at noon Saturday for a new five-year term, extending his reign to a third of a decade.
“I, as president, swear on my honor and integrity before the great Turkish nation and history to preserve the existence and independence of the state … to obey the constitution, laws, democracy, principles and reforms of Atatürk and in the beginnings of secular democracy”Erdogan said during the swearing-in ceremony held at the parliament in Ankara and broadcast live on television.
Its leader Turkey with the longest tenure, Erdogan won 52.2% of the vote in the second round of the presidential election held on May 28.
Waiting for the composition of the new government
A big conversation has started about the composition of the new government, with information transmitted by the correspondent of SKAI, Manolis Kostidis, stating that expected to be left out are “top-ranking executives” Mevlut Cavusoglu Hulusi Akar and Suleiman Soylu.
On the contrary, the following are dominant for important positions:
-Hakan Fidan (the intelligence chief) for interior minister,
– Yasar Guler (the head of the armed forces) for the Ministry of Defence
The previous representative of the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalinseems to be taking over Fidan’s position, as commander of the secret services.
