At the same time, Erdogan stated that, after his meeting with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit, expects the issues surrounding Turkey’s purchase of US F-16 fighter jets to be resolved soon. Erdogan claimed that the issue is “in the hands” of the US president, as he claimed Biden himself told him.
Erdogan also said that, after the meeting of the US and Russian intelligence chiefs in Ankara, “neither the US nor Russia will attempt to use a nuclear weapon.”
“According to the information I received from the manager of information services me regarding the United States and the Russia, neither side will attempt to use the nuclear weapon,” Erdogan said, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
CIA chief William Burns and his Russian counterpart Sergey Naryskin they had met at the beginning of the week in the Turkish capital, as the Turkish presidency had confirmed.
In accordance with white house, Burns had on this occasion warned the head of the Russian intelligence services about the consequences of the eventual use of nuclear weapons, which Russia has threatened to use in Ukraine. The White House had clarified regarding this meeting that “it was not about any kind of negotiations” nor “for discussion of one’s settlement war in Ukraine”.
Turkey will export energy
Erdogan also said that Turkey is in talks with some countries to import energy which he will then export, without however naming any country. In comments he made on the plane to reporters accompanying him, Erdogan also said that the Anchor will work with Moscow to build a nuclear power plant with four turbines in the northern Turkish province of Sinop, reports the Athens and Macedonian News Agency.
The Turkish president also said he may review relations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad after presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for next June. When asked about a possible meeting with the Syrian leader, Erdogan replied that in politics there is no eternal discontent or eternal quarrels.
