Energean: Study on carbon dioxide storage in Prinos in Halliburton

Energean Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of the Energean group, commissioned Halliburton to evaluate the carbon dioxide storage potential in the Prinos Basin, Kavala.

The carbon dioxide storage project in Prinos is an investment of 390 million euros, which has already received the green light from the Recovery & Resilience Fund of the European Union and which will make Prinos in a model industrial complex not only in Greece but also in the Mediterranean in general. In addition, it will significantly enhance the competitiveness of the domestic industry and will have significant benefits for the environment, drastically reducing the environmental footprint of industrial activity in Greece.

“We are pleased to extend our already strong relationship with Energean and to work closely with this study, combining Energean’s deep knowledge of the Prinos area with our company’s deep knowledge of carbon dioxide storage,” he said. Martin White, Halliburton Vice President for Europe, Eurasia and Sub-Saharan Africa. “This project will be the first comprehensive groundwater assessment for carbon dioxide storage between a field manager and an energy service company in Europe. We look forward to supporting Energean on its path to energy transition.”

“This is a landmark project and we are delighted to be working with Halliburton on it,” she said. Katerina Sardi, CEO and Country Manager of the company in Greece. Prinos is considered the ideal place to host a carbon dioxide storage unit with an estimated storage capacity of up to 50% of the pollutants emitted by the domestic industry over a period of 20 years, starting in 2025. Halliburton’s unique know-how and her acquaintance with Prinos guarantees the successful result of this cooperation and lays the foundations for the successful implementation of a project that is decisive in the path of Energean towards a zero balance in greenhouse gas emissions before 2050 “.

It is noted that the elaboration of the study has already begun.
