Enel-SP, an electricity distributor in São Paulo, activated its emergency plan for weather events, this Friday (19), following a storm warning for this weekend. According to the state's Civil Defense, large volumes of rain are forecast.
In a statement, the distributor stated that consumers are being advised on social media, by email and by SMS about weather events in the event of a power outage. There will be reinforcement of operational teams and service channels for eventual occurrences involving the supply of energy in the 24 municipalities served by the company.
During the second week of January, thousands of people suffered from power outages caused by storms. According to Procon, the distributor has accumulated more than 500 complaints this month alone.
The concessionaire's emergency plan foresees the mobilization of up to three times the number of teams in the field, in addition to the possibility of doubling call center service capacity in cases of severe weather events.
Enel has maintained contact with the main state and municipal authorities in its concession area, the company stated in a statement.
According to an alert from the Civil Defense of São Paulo, there is a greater possibility of large volumes accumulated in the regions of Baixada Santista, Litoral Norte, Vale do Paraíba and Greater São Paulo.
Enel also warns of some preventive actions during storms:
– If you find yourself in a broken cable, do not approach it
– Do not touch metallic objects: such as traffic lights, public lighting posts, bus stops, gates and railings.
– Unplug the equipment and leave it out of reach of water.
– Seek safe shelter: in case of intense winds, look for safe places, away from structures susceptible to damage, such as poles, trees or electrical wiring.
– Avoid wooded areas: during storms, there is a risk of falling trees and lightning strikes.
Rains caused damage
In recent weeks, heavy rains in São Paulo have caused damage and thousands of people have been left without electricity. Across the state, strong gusts of wind were recorded in addition to dozens of calls for tree falls.
Governor Tarcísio de Freitas commented last Tuesday (19) on the problems with the services provided by Enel, “a company that leaves São Paulo residents in the lurch every time it rains”. Thousands of customers were affected, in some cases without supply for up to seven days.
A blackout left at least 290,000 properties without electricity in November last year. The concessionaire was fined R$12,793,962.68 for poor service provision.
