Emmy 2023: Niecy Nash-Betts thanks herself after receiving award

Niecy Nash-Betts gave an emotional speech when receiving an Emmy at the ceremony that took place on Monday night (15). The 53-year-old actress reflected on her career in the world of entertainment, and made no secret of the fact that it was thanks to her self-confidence that she reached the pantheon of success and won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her remarkable performance as Glenda Cleveland in “Dahmer : An American Cannibal.”

The star competed against talented actresses such as Annaleigh Ashford and Juliette Lewis, from “Welcome to the Seduction Club”, Maria Bello from “Treta'', Claire Danes, from “Toby's New Life”, Camila Morrone from “Daisy Jones and the Six”, and Merritt Wever from “The Little Things in Life”.

Taking the stage, she exclaimed through tears and enthusiasm: “I am a victor, baby. Thank you to the Most High for this divine moment. Thanks to Ryan Murphy for saving me, Evan Peters, I love you. Netflix, every person who voted for me, thank you'', thanked the star.

“And you know who I want to thank? I want to thank me. My belief in myself for doing what they said I couldn't do. I want to say to myself in front of all you beautiful people, 'Go for it, girl, with your determination, you got this,'” she added.

Closing her speech, Niecy dedicated the award to black women: “Finally, I accept this award on behalf of all the black and brown women who have been unheard and over-policed. Like Glenda Cleveland, like Sandra Bland, like Breonna Taylor. As an artist, my job is to speak the truth, and I will do that until the day I die. Mommy, I won,” she celebrated.
