“Emily in Paris”: Actress reveals that co-star saved her after septic shock

The actress Ashley Park 33, recalled a scary health episode she faced earlier this year and revealed she’s grateful that Paul Forman, her “Emily in Paris” co-star and boyfriend, helped her get through it.

The American, who plays the talented Mindy in the Netflix hit, spoke with Jesse Tyler Ferguson (“Modern Family”) on Sony Music Entertainment’s “Dinner’s On Me” podcast and reflected on her experience having septic shock during a vacation trip in January.

“I got so sick to the point where it was possibly irreversible, that Paul (Forman) really saved my life,” Park said, adding that her illness was so severe at one point that she “almost wasn’t here anymore.”

“I was in so much pain and at a point where I really didn’t think I would be able to laugh or take a deep breath again without being in excruciating pain,” the actress said.

Ashley said she was on a trip to the Maldives with Forman, who plays Nicolas in “Emily in Paris” and is her off-screen boyfriend, when she began experiencing symptoms of what she initially thought was tonsillitis.[A infecção] It spread to many of my organs and I had pneumonia in both lungs,” Park continued.

She was informed on New Year’s Day that she was in septic shock.

“I didn’t know there were different degrees of sepsis and that this was the most severe,” she said.

Septic shock is the final and most severe stage of sepsis, according to the Cleveland Clinic. When affected by sepsis, the body essentially overreacts to an infection, which can cause organ failure. In 2020, the Lancet reported that sepsis was responsible for 1 in 5 deaths globally. Both sepsis and septic shock require immediate treatment.

The actress reflected on how grateful she is to Forman, who managed to remain calm during her health scare and “not alarm her” when she was sick with a potentially fatal infection.

“It was really scary and I couldn’t process it because of the condition I was in, and he did, and he was able to stay strong for me,” she said.

Ashley first mentioned the health episode on social media in mid-January.

Of Forman, she wrote at the time: “You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in intensive care, scary emergencies, countless scans, tests and injections, excruciating pain and so much confusion, all while we were alone on the other side of the world, far from anyone we knew.”

“I love you, Paul. More than I can ever express,” he added.
