The Brazilian embassy in Beirut recommended this Sunday (14) that Brazilian citizens living in Lebanon avoid staying in the south of the country — the region that borders the north of Israel — and in the border areas.
The Brazilian representation in Lebanon reported that it is attentive to “the escalation of tension in the region and is committed to providing the necessary guidance to the community”.
The guidance was given after Iran launched, on Saturday, unprecedentedly, drones and missiles towards Israel – the Israeli government reported having intercepted 99% of them. The Iranian offensive came in response to an alleged Israeli attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus, Syria, on April 1.
The Brazilian government recommends that citizens adopt safety instructions from local authorities, reinforce precautionary measures – especially in the south of the country – and not take part in crowds and protests.
“If you are not in Lebanon, do not travel to the country. For Brazilian nationals who do not consider it essential to stay in Lebanon, the Embassy recommends that they consider the precaution of leaving the country until its return to normality”, it informs.
“For Brazilian nationals who deem it essential to stay in Lebanon, avoid residing in the south of the country or traveling to that region, especially border areas”, says the statement.
Southern Lebanon, an area monitored with concern by the Brazilian embassy in the country, is dominated by Hezbollah. Cells of the Lebanese Shiite militant organization have been attacked in recent months by Israeli forces during the escalating war between Israel and Hamas.
