The 35-year-old African Elephant Pupy said goodbye to the EcoParque de Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Monday (14), to start a Long trajectory on land to the Brazilian Elephant Sanctuary (SEB) in Chapada dos Guimarães, in Mato Grosso.
Before saying goodbye, Puppy went through a quarantine and training period at EcoParque to familiarize himself with the transport box and reduce the stress of 2,690 km trip that should take five days .
During the trip, the elephant should be housed in the box and accompanied by a team of caregivers. With the experience of Elephanta Mara, who made the same route in 2020, experts understand that the time of travel to their definitive home may vary according to the animal’s temperament.
“Pupy is doing very well! She is still eating, which is a great sign that she is feeling comfortable – and also a reflection of the excellent work done by her keepers in EcoParque,” said the Seb.
