Yamandú Orsi, center-left candidate for President of Uruguay, has 51.8% of voting intentions, while Álvaro Delgado, center-right candidate, has 48.2%, according to a survey by CB Consultoria.
The percentages refer to valid votes. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
The second round will be held on Sunday (24), when more than 2.7 million people will be able to go to the polls.
Delgado is part of the party in power in Uruguay and presents himself as a candidate for continuity and stability.
He wants to advance the goals of the current administration’s free trade agreement, including a potential understanding with China. It also seeks to keep taxes low and intensify the fight against organized crime.
Orsi, in turn, is a former history teacher and was in the lead in the first round, held in October, with 43.9% of the votes.
He is a political patron of former president Pepe Mujica and says he wants to usher in “a modern left” to deal with homelessness, poverty and crime, some of voters’ main concerns.
Methodology
The survey interviewed 1,201 people over the age of 18 between November 15th and 19th.
The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, and the confidence level is 95%.
A “structured questionnaire of closed questions with direct application” was carried out.
