A 76-year-old man, survivor of the bus accident that left at least 10 dead in Itapetininga (SP), was arrested on Friday (5). According to the São Paulo Public Security Department, he was a fugitive from justice.
According to authorities, during the response to the accident, the passenger was identified by military police officers who discovered that there was an arrest warrant issued against him by the District of Buri, a municipality in the interior of São Paulo.
After being identified, the man was arrested and now remains at the disposal of the Judiciary. The case was registered as a wanted man’s capture at the 2nd Police District of Buri.
The accident
Around midnight this Friday (5), a tourist bus collided with a support pillar of a viaduct, on the Francisco da Silva Pontes Highway (SP-127), in Itapetininga, in the interior of São Paulo. In total, 10 people died in the accident and 42 were injured.
The bus left Itapeva and was headed for the city of Aparecida. After the incident, the survivors were taken to nearby hospitals.
On the same day of the accident, the Government of São Paulo asked the population for blood donations for the victims of the tragedy.
