Elderly female climate activists smashed the Magna Carta display case

Two elderly climate activists, aged 82 and 85, managed to break through part of the reinforced display case that houses the original text of the Magna Carta at London's British Library before being stopped by security guards. In a video posted by Just Stop Oil on social media, 82-year-old Dr Sue Parfitt, who is also an Anglican priest, can be seen holding a cutting over the display case while Judy Bruce, 85, hits it with a hammer many times. Parfitt then held up a placard with the slogan “The government is breaking the law”. The historic document was unharmed, the library said. There are only four original texts of the Magna Carta, that 13th century English charter that stated that no one is above the law.
