Eight killed in Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan soil

Eight people were killed today on Holy Monday by Pakistani airstrikes in two provinces of Afghanistan, near the common border of the two countries, as announced by the spokesman of the Taliban government, Zabihullah Mujahid. “Pakistani jets bombed civilian houses (…) in Paktika province (…) killing six people,” while “in Khost province (…) two women were killed,” the spokesman said. Afghanistan “unequivocally condemns these attacks”, the spokesman continued, denouncing the “violation of national sovereignty” of his country. After the Taliban returned to power in 2021, border tensions between the two countries have escalated. Pakistan alleges that armed groups such as the Taliban of Pakistan (TTP) carry out planned attacks from Afghan soil along the porous border.
