Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Monday (16) that there had been no progress in efforts to open the Rafah crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at a press conference with his French counterpart, Catherine Colonna, Shoukry blamed Israel for the continued blockade of the crossing.
“The Israeli government has not yet taken a position that would allow the opening of the crossing on the Gaza Strip, allowing the entry of aid or the exit of citizens from third world countries,” he stated.
Egypt supports the opening of the crossing and that aid vehicles are awaiting permission to cross, Shoukry said.
“Egypt has been working, since the beginning of this crisis and the escalation, to open the passage and allow humanitarian aid to enter. A large number of her are gathered in El-Arish,” she said.
