A former CIA officer who has lived in Russia since 2013 called Bitcoin the most significant achievement of the financial system since the existence of money and means of exchange.

Edward Snowden is convinced that, due to its decentralized nature, Bitcoin is facilitating a gradual shift away from traditional forms of currency, be it paper notes or minted coins. In addition, Bitcoin allows users to avoid centralized financial control by the state.

“An unpopular but true point of view: Bitcoin is the most significant advance in money since any coin was invented. If you don’t believe me or don’t understand me, I won’t try to convince you otherwise, I’m sorry,” Snowden wrote on social media.

Snowden has repeatedly demonstrated his interest in the first cryptocurrency. Recently, during the Super Bowl, the largest sporting event in the United States, Snowden joked on social media: “Everyone is watching the Super Bowl, but I’m looking at the Bitcoin chart.”

Formerly former CIA agent
congratulated United States with the advent of spot Bitcoin ETFs. According to the former agent, these exchange-traded funds could have appeared in the country ten years ago. Snowden suggested that Congressional policy on cryptocurrencies could improve once lawmakers realize that by doing so they are protecting pension funds and retirement accounts.

Despite his support for Bitcoin, Snowden believes that developers could improve the privacy of this cryptocurrency. A few years ago, a former CIA officer praised the anonymous cryptocurrency Zcash. The ZEC coin is amazing because transactions with it cannot be tracked and the amounts transferred cannot be determined.
