Easter holiday has 60% increase in highway deaths, says PRF

This Easter holiday, 86 people died on Brazilian federal highways – an increase of about 60% Compared to the same period last year, when 54 fatalities were counted.

The data were released by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) on Monday (21), when the Operation Holy Week and Tiradentes 2025 was closed, which intensified the policing on the highways between 17 and 21 this month.

During the period, police reported 57,062 infractions, 158 drivers tested positive for alcohol consumption and 73 were arrested. Agents accounted for 1,198 injured people, number 41% higher than last year .

The states of Santa Catarina (145), Minas Gerais (118) and Paraná (110) occupy the first places in the national ranking with more accidents: 1,038 accidents throughout Brazil.

In relation to the same holiday last year, the increase is almost 30% .
