The issuance of main pensions by EFKA reached 30,200 in July. As the body states in its announcement, this is a new monthly issuance record recorded by the EFKA services and which reflects the progress made in recent months both in terms of the de-escalation of overdue applications and in the issuance times of the new pensions.
At the same time, the outstanding main pensions submitted in 2019 were zeroed. It is recalled that the outstandings for the years 2016-2018 have already been zeroed. Correspondingly, the pending pensions for 2020 are also heading towards zero, as at the end of July 95.6% of the submitted applications had been cleared, while for 2021 the corresponding percentage reaches 85.2%.
“Indeed, for 2022, 82% of the applications submitted in the first five months of the year have already been issued, which demonstrates the significant acceleration in the processing of new applications, an acceleration that in many cases allows the issuance of a pension even within 60 days” notes EFKA.
In addition, in the first seven months of this year, 5,500 more pensions were issued than in the whole of 2020 (169,146 against 163,819) and 46,000 more than in 2019, where 123,324 pensions were issued.
Based on the July figures therefore, overdue main pensions were limited to 56,000. However, as the agency points out, the number of pending pensions that can be issued is much smaller and is estimated at 36,000. And this is because there are approximately 20,000 pension cases that are judged to be potentially inflexible or it is expected that negative decisions will be issued for them. These cases concern about 11,000 applications, where no pension right is established by law, 2,000 applications with debts above the limits that have not been settled, 1,000 cases with open court pending cases with the EFKA and 6,000 applications that lack a medical opinion.
A large proportion of these 36,000 overdue main pensions have already been issued within August and this is expected to be reflected in the official figures around mid-September.
According to EFKA, the majority of the remaining pensions concern State pensions, where a plan to de-escalate the backlog is already being implemented, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems of the Ministry of Digital Governance and with the aim of creating a fully automated issuing process.
Now, taking into account the data of July, 95% of the main pensions, whose applications were submitted from 2016 until today, have been issued. This percentage is expected to increase significantly with the integration of the August data and the liquidation of the potentially inelastic or rejected pension applications.
The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, said: “July turned out to be the best month for EFKA with the most issuances of main pensions. The data now proves that the problem of overdue main pensions is heading towards its final solution. This is a result of the work of both EFKA employees and a series of policies, actions and tools, which we put in place and which made possible what for many, until now, seemed impossible. We continue with the same speed and determination in issuing the rest of the pensions that remain”.
