The long-awaited sequel to “Dune” released in 2021, arrived in Brazilian cinemas this week. “Dune: Part 2” brings back the science fiction universe created by the American writer Frank Herbert .
However, the two films in this new adaptation, directed by Denis Villeneuve, are not the first works to bring the planet of Arrakis to movie screens.
The first film based on Herbert's books was released in 1984, also under the name “Dune” and directed by the renowned David Lynch .
The first adaptation starred names like Kyle MacLachlan, Sean Young, Patrick Stewart, Virginia Madsen, and even Sting, lead singer of the band The Police.
Almost four decades later, the story based on science fiction books returns to the screen with a cast that is also impressive: Timothèe Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Oscar Isaac, and others.
