Due to the complexity of the work, the city government does not give a deadline for the demolition of the building on March 25

The city of São Paulo informed that it is not possible to estimate, at the moment, a deadline for the demolition of the building that caught fire on March 25th, due to the complexity of the work.

The licensing law sets 180 days — six months — for the operation, but the city administration “cannot confirm that the demolition will take exactly six months, less or more.”

Work began on Saturday (16th), and the installation of the construction site on Rua Barão de Duprat has already been completed. The forecast is to start the internal lighting of the building and the removal of the burned materials this Monday (18). The operation will be carried out seven days a week, from 7 am to 5 pm.

Also according to the municipal administration, the installation of the security screen on the left side of the building should be completed by next weekend.

The Municipal Secretariat of Urban Infrastructure and Works (SIURB) said that the service will be done mechanically, without implosion.

Two stores on Rua Comendador Abdo Schahin, between numbers 70 and 102, are still closed, as they are still within the isolation area. Earlier, officials said the building is at risk of one-off collapses.

The city hall note also adds that, according to the Engineering and Traffic Company (CET), Rua Comendador Abdo Schaim “remains blocked to traffic on the stretch between Rua Afornso Kherlakian and Rua Cavalheiro Basílio Jafet”. SPTrans, in turn, reported that there is no diversion of bus lines in the 25 de Março region.
