The government of the Federal District temporarily suspended, this Wednesday (3), the application of the first dose of Coronavac for children. According to the Department of Health of the DF, the interruption is temporary and results from the lack of immunizers.
The folder informed that the stock of other vaccines against Covid-19 is maintained and that children from 5 years of age can seek health units for vaccination.
The Coronavac vaccine is the only immunizing agent authorized for use in children aged 3 to 4 years, according to a decision by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).
The Secretariat reported that 4,000 doses of Coronavac are reserved for application as a second dose. In this way, those who received the first dose of the vaccine have the second dose “stored and guaranteed”.
The folder stated that it will resume vaccination of children from 3 years of age with the 1st dose after sending a new batch of the immunizer by the Ministry of Health.
Vaccination in this age group was released after authorization to use Coronavac by Anvisa on July 13. The agency also received a request from Pfizer to include the vaccine in the immunization of children from 6 months of age.
The result of Anvisa’s analysis should be released in September. Currently, the Pfizer immunizer can only be applied from the age of 5.
