Driver who overturned Porsche in MG was drunk, police say

The driver of the Porsche that overturned on Avenida Barão Homem de Melo, in the Estoril neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte, did not have permission to drive and showed “clear signs of drunkenness”, reported the Civil Police. The accident happened in the early hours of Monday (11) and left one person dead.

According to the delegate responsible for the case, the 32-year-old man remained silent throughout the testimony and refused to take a breathalyzer test.

The police reported that the driver had not been permitted to drive since 2011, due to a “serious fine”. He was arrested in the act and charged with the crimes of manslaughter and drunk driving, crimes that do not require bail.

According to information provided by investigators, after treatment at João 23 hospital, the man was taken to the police station in the company of his lawyers. After being arrested, the man complained of pain and was taken to the hospital again, where he awaits medical attention to determine the need for hospitalization.

The accident

Security camera footage captured the moment of the accident. In the video you can see the wreckage of the car valued at R$600,000 flying across the avenue. According to police, the vehicle’s speedometer was stuck at 250 km/h.

During the accident, the passenger, a 32-year-old man, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. The road was closed due to the wreckage of the vehicle, but was reopened in the early afternoon.
