Driver suspected of running over MST members arrested in Greater Recife

A 27 -year -old man, Suspected of running over two members of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) He was arrested at home in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, on Tuesday (22). The pre -trial arrest warrant was fulfilled by Civil Police teams.

The running over occurred during a movement of the movement on April 15, on Avenida Abdias de Carvalho, in the Pernambuco capital. According to the Civil Police, the driver tried to pierce the blockade mounted by the protesters, accessing the shoulder, and was prevented. “In an unreasonable and impulsive movement, he accelerated and ran over two people,” said Deputy Diego Jardim, responsible for the case.

During a statement, the suspect claimed to have acted in self -defense and said he did not realize the run over. The Civil Police still investigate the motivation of the crime, but so far there is no evidence that it has political motivation.

One of the victims, a 67 -year -old man, remains in serious condition at the Restoration Hospital. The other suffered only minor injuries.

The car involved in the crime was seized and will be subjected to expertise. The driver was charged with attempted murder and omission of relief. After a custody hearing, he was sent to the Professor Everardo Luna (Cotel) Observation and Screening Center in Abreu e Lima.
