A series of dramatic images capture 8-year-old Yigit Cakmak being pulled from rubble by emergency workers in Hatay, Turkey, 52 hours after the initial earthquake hit the region.
Getty photographer Burak Kara captured scenes of Cakmak as he was freed from the collapsed building.
The boy was passed through the rubble from rescuer to rescuer until he was finally in the arms of his mother who was waiting for him at the scene.
Impacts
At least 11,104 people died in Turkey and Syria after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the region on Monday (6).
The death toll rose to 8,574 in Turkey, according to what the vice president of the country, Fuat Oktay, said in a press conference on Tuesday (7). Another 50,000 people are injured.
In Syria, the death toll is at least 2,530, and the wounded exceed 4,654.
More than 48 hours after the earthquake and despite the cold in the region, rescue teams are still looking for survivors in the rubble.
