Dozens of people died tragically on Sunday in clashes between fans at a soccer match in Enzerekore, southeastern Guinea, medical sources told AFP. “We have about a hundred dead. Bodies are lined up as far as the eye can see in the hospital. Others were even left on the floor in the corridors. The morgue is full,” said a doctor at a regional hospital in the country. “It all started with the questioning of the referee’s decision. Supporters invaded the pitch,” an eyewitness told AFP on condition of anonymity for his safety. According to the Guinean press, the match was part of a tournament dedicated to the head of the military junta, Mamadi Dubouya, who seized power in a September 2021 coup.
