Federal court jury of USA decided to prosecute former President Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election resulta case that is considered the most serious against the favorite for the Republican nomination ahead of the 2024 presidential elections, who already has two other trials in front of him.
Mr. Trump is being prosecuted for “conspiracy against the American state,” also obstruction of justice (including the ratification of Joe Biden’s election victory by Congress on January 6, 2021) and attempted violation of electoral rightsfollowing an investigation by Special Counsel Jack Smith.
Donald Trump’s attitude
A little earlier and apparently certain of his prosecution, Donald Trump had made the following post on his platform, Truth Social: “I am learning that the deranged Jack Smith, in order to interfere in the 2024 presidential election, will publish yet another false indictment of your beloved president, me, at 5:00 p.m. (00:00 Greek time, Tuesday, August 1)”.
Smith has already brought charges against Trump for mishandling highly classified government documents and is investigating the former president’s efforts to overturn the results of the November 2020 election.
Trump said two weeks ago that he received a letter from prosecutors saying he could face criminal charges over the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters.
“Why didn’t they do this 2.5 years ago?” Trump said and continued: “Why did they wait so long? Because they wanted to put it right in the middle of my election campaign. Prosecutorial violation”.
