Donald Trump officially announced as Republican presidential candidate

Donald Trump has been officially announced as the Republican Party’s candidate for the 2024 United States presidential election. The vote is scheduled for November 5.

Earlier, Trump announced Senator JD Vance as his vice presidential candidate.

Donald Trump’s candidacy was officially announced during the Republican Party National Convention, which is being held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Eric Trump awarded Florida’s delegates — a key feature of the U.S. electoral system — to his father. Tiffany Trump and Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s other children, stood alongside Eric.

This comes two days after the former US president was the target of an assassination attempt during a rally. He was wounded in the right ear. The shooter and another bystander were killed.

Donald Trump announced via social media on Monday (15) that Senator JD Vance of Ohio will be his running mate.

“After much deliberation and reflection, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the most suitable person to assume the office of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the great state of Ohio,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Vance, a newcomer to Congress, came into office with the help of the former president, whose support helped him win a contested 2022 election.

Vance criticized Trump in 2016, and six years later, Trump publicly humiliated Vance, even after endorsing him in the 2022 election.

Still, the senator is a fervent Trump supporter in Congress and often votes in line with the former president’s interests.
