The private company Ghost Robotics, together with the US Air Force, is testing the Q-UGV autonomous four-legged robots that will help the military during combat operations, primarily as scouts. Videos and photos of the robotic dogs of the Pentagon’s Philadelphia contractor appear from time to time on the websites of various US Army air bases.
The Q-UGVs are designed in part in a modular fashion: they can be serviced in the field, exchanged in minutes, and equipped with various sensors to suit specific applications.
“The guiding principle behind the design of our leg-mounted robots is less mechanical complexity compared to peers and even traditional wheel-tracked versions. By reducing complexity, we essentially increase reliability, maneuverability and durability, as well as lower deployment and maintenance costs.” – write to Ghost Robotics.
Electronic “dogs” are one of the links in the Pentagon’s Advanced Battle Management System project: it is an extensive set of measures for detecting and countering threats to the US Army, using developments in the field of system autonomy, artificial intelligence and rapid data analysis.

The company claims that their “dogs” will be useful not only to the military, but also to others in the field of national security, public safety and corporate applications. Autonomy – up to 15 km of movement on a flat surface.
The cost of one robot with a basic set of software, sensors, docking station and other equipment is from $ 100,000 to $ 250,000.
Similar systems are being developed by the better-known company Boston Dynamics and several others, such as ANYmal (Switzerland) and Unitree Robotics (China).
