A documentary with Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder which will be released this summer during the Tribeca Film Festival, is being described as much more than a show movie. Namedly “Matter of Time” production is a “called to action ” that is, wants to mobilize people.
A series of solo shows by Vedder in Seattle in 2023 serves as a backdrop for the film, which tells his efforts to raise funds for clinical research on bullous epidermolysis, a rare genetic disease of the skin that causes bubbles and skin erosion, mainly affecting children.
The income of these shows was intended for EB Research Partnership (EBRP), a foundation co -founded by Eddie Vedder and his wife, Jill Vedder, along with a group of families. The purpose of the organization is to find a cure for the disease by 2030.
According to a press release, the movie “Mix Powerful Music with real and moving stories of patients, families, researchers and thought leaders, revealing how determination and innovation are paving the way for a cure.”
“We are very grateful to the music community and the entire team that made these shows and this movie possible,” said Eddie Vedder in a statement initially released to CNN . “This is a story of hope, resilience and the power of the community.”
Jill Vedder, president of EBRP, added: “It’s amazing to see how much we’ve advanced. Bullous epidermolysis can be rare, but through the tireless work of our community, our message is reaching more people than ever. This goes beyond awareness – it’s an urgent appeal to heal EB by 2030, and together, I know you can make it.”

The couple’s involvement has a personal motivation: the son of a family friend was born with the disease, which inspired them to act.
“The show was not just about music; it was about amplifying the voices of a small but powerful community that refuses to let this disease define them,” Finlin said. “With the dedication of the Vedders and the efforts of all involved, this documentary shows the world that even against all probabilities, real changes are within our reach.”
Founded in 2010, EBRP had a remarkable impact on disease research, using a model called risk philanthropy, which seeks to create a recurring flow of donations by applying some principles of investment. With this model, the Foundation has financed 160 research projects and helped accelerate the growth of clinical tests, which currently exceeds 50 ongoing, against only two at the beginning, according to the organization’s website.
Michael Hund, CEO of EB Research Partnership, said “Matter of Time” “highlights the real scientific progress that is happening now.”
“We are showing the world as rare diseases like EB can be healed, and we want to apply our model to thousands of other rare diseases,” Hund said.
The documentary is a production of Door Knoocker Media, in association with Vitalogy Foundation. Karen Barzilay also acts as a producer.
The debut is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, during the 24th edition of the Tribeca Festival, as announced on Wednesday (16).
