Doctor shot in attempted robbery in Rio de Janeiro

A doctor, identified as Fabrício Azambuja Fontes, was shot by a graze on Wednesday night (10), in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio de Janeiro.

The first information indicates that he was in a vehicle on Avenida das Américas, one of the main roads in the neighborhood, when he was shot by criminals who were trying to steal the car in front.

According to the Military Police, the victim was taken to Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital. She was later transferred to a private health unit, from where she has since been discharged.

The case is being investigated by the Barra da Tijuca Police Station (16th DP). According to the Civil Police, the agents will listen to victims and witnesses and look for images from security cameras in the region to determine who was responsible for the crime and clarify the facts.

In October last year, four doctors were shot while socializing at a kiosk on the waterfront of Barra da Tijuca. Three died, including the brother of federal deputy Sâmia Bonfim (PSOL).
