The new Disney movie Peter Pan and Wendywhich will premiere on Disney + on April 28, will feature for the first time an actor with Down syndrome, Noah Matthews Matofsky, who will play one of the main characters in the film.
Determined, the 15-year-old actor did not want to lose the opportunity to fight for his dreams when he found out that Mickey Mouse’s house was carrying out a casting. His charisma and talent immediately convinced the film’s director, David Lowery.
Noah is a British actor who had been working in a few stage plays, but now he is making history by becoming the first actor with Down syndrome to land a leading role in a Disney company film. In interview for the Daily Mail, he spoke with beautiful simplicity of what this adventure has meant to him.
It was an amazing experience, I had my own trailer and I made a lot of great friends. We all learned sword fighting, which I loved. I had a lot of lines to learn very quickly, but it was exciting and I really enjoyed it.
In the new adaptation of Peter Pan, Noah plays Slightly, leader of the lost boys. The exciting story of his film debut began when he found out that Disney was making casting through the inclusive talent agency Zebedee, so the young man decided to send an audition tape. Some time later, he had a meeting with David Lowery, that’s when the magic happened. In another interview for The Sun, the joyous Noah shared a special moment he experienced during filming.
One of my favorite days was when Jude (Law) rented an ice cream van and drove it to the set, then served us ice cream himself.
Now Noah’s dream is to attend the University of Dramatic Arts, since he wants to be an inspiration for other people with Down syndrome who dream of becoming actors, as he ensures that this condition should not stop anyone. Finally, he invited people to always dream big.
