Akira Toriyama the Japanese author who created the popular and influential series “Dragon Ball”, died of a brain problem last week, aged 68, according to his production studio this Friday (08).
Although the franchise was launched in the 80s, the animations continue to be successful and remain one of the most successful productions in Japan.
Toriyama was the mind behind the martial arts animated franchise featuring Son Goku, a boy from outer space with superhuman strength and a monkey's tail who embarks on a quest for the seven dragon balls.
In addition to “Dragon Ball”, Akira produced other renowned works. Check out:
“Dr Slump”
Although Dragon Ball is Akira Toriyama's most famous work, he first found fame with “Dr. Slump.” The manga follows the adventures of Arale Norimaki, a robot with the appearance of a young girl, and its creator, Senbei Norimaki.
The manga was adapted into an anime series by Toei Animation, which aired on Fuji TV from 1981 to 1986, consisting of 243 episodes. Furthermore, a remake was created thirteen years after the end of the manga, consisting of 74 episodes that were broadcast from 1997 to 1999. The series also spawned several novels, video games, and animated films.

“Sandland”
Another well-known Akira story is “Sand Land”. In the manga, the author tells the adventures of Beelzebub, the prince of demons, on his journey in search of Ghost Lake. In this short work, water is scarce and controlled by a king and as prices soar, common people are forced to steal to survive.
Although the story is more serious, there is still enough room for humor. According to Anime News Network, the anime turned into a series will reach the Star+ in March 20.
“Jaco the Galactic Patrolman”
Another short manga series, “Jaco the Galactic Patrolman” tells about Jaco, who came to Earth to protect it from alien attacks. The story takes place years before the events of “Dragon Ball” take place with the alien attack that Jaco expected to be the arrival of Goku on Earth as a baby.
Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that Jaco eventually reappears in “Dragon Ball Super” as a secondary character.

“Cowa!”
“Cowa!” is one of Akira Toriyama's first works after finishing “Dragon Ball”. With just fourteen chapters, the more childish story follows a trio of monsters on their journey in search of medicine to save their fellow monsters.
