After seven years dedicated to the art of paying homage to the singer Bruno Mars the Brazilian Johnny Matos the artist’s cover, bought tickets for 14 of the artist’s performances on this year’s Brazilian tour, with the aim of meeting his idol.
The Maranhão native’s story with the star began in 2017, when, unpretentiously, he decided to go to the singer’s show in Brazil dressed as him and ended up being compared to Mars by the audience present.
A video of that moment went viral on the internet, opening the doors to his career as the singer’s interpreter. Since then, Johnny has developed the “Mars Experience” project, which has already toured several cities in Brazil, offering a musical and dancing experience with Bruno Mars’ greatest hits.
Johnny Matos, who started just lip-syncing the American artist’s songs, improved his show in three phases: dubbing, choreography and, finally, the combination of live singing with a full band. Over seven years on the road, Johnny has performed more than 150 shows and accumulated more
40 million views on social media.
“I’ll be at almost every show! I am very excited to watch all these shows and applaud my idol proudly”, says Matos, hopeful about the possibility of meeting his idol
that transformed his life.
Last year, the cover came very close to realizing this dream, when he met Bruno Mars’ band, but due to scheduling conflicts, the meeting with the singer did not happen. “It was exciting to meet the band, and I still dream of the moment of shaking Bruno Mars’ hand and thanking him for everything”, he confesses. In its fourth visit, the voice of “24K Magic” and “Treasure” passes through five Brazilian cities and will make a total of 14 performances. This Tuesday (1st), the artist will also give a benefit performance in support of Rio Grande do Sul, affected by heavy rains at the end of April.
